A Conversation with Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood has been a conscious visionary from her Punk days to her latest collection incorporating indigenous Amazon culture, where she showcased Awajun and Ashaninka wearable art; including some designs by ORG by vio founder Violeta Villacorta, created in collaboration with the Awajun women artisans in the Peruvian Amazon for ORG by vio.
Vivienne Westwood continues to be an inspiration as an artist, designer and activist. She uses fashion as a tool to express her passions and global concerns. One of the issues she is vocal about is climate change. She traveled to the Peruvian Amazon in 2013, with partner organization Ecotribal, to visit the forests she is helping protect through Cool Earth, where she met the Ashaninka. The conversation above touches on many issues we are currently facing: the environment, economy, culture, fashion and more.
I use fashion as an excuse, a platform to talk politics.” Vivienne Westwood
