In 2016, our friends at El Buen Cacao started a non-profit called Cacao for the People to support cacao growers and indigenous chocolate makers. They chose Charem Yanesha cacao bars as the first product sold under Cacao for the People.
The Yanesha artisans, aside from making gorgeous jewelry for ORG BY VIO, also make yummy 45% to 100% chocolate bars from organic cacao beans that they grow, harvest, roast and grind. While the focus of ORG BY VIO is jewelry and accessories, we also love to connect the artisans with others that can help them market the many goods and products they produce. Last year, El Buen Cacao placed their first order with the Yanesha.
El Buen Cacao owners Erik Landis and Jessica Ramirez met working as archeologists, fell in love with each other and the rich, ancient history of chocolate. They handcraft delicious chocolate bars, truffles and drinks handmade from scratch with organic cacao beans from Central and South America. My favorite drinks are “The Violeta” made with cacao, oat milk, maca and spices, and “The Phantom” made with cacao, ghost pepper and your choice of milk. Their chocolate covered fruits and truffles are divine!
