Marilu Sculpts Wood @ Yanesha Project, Peruvian Amazon

ORG by vio is working with Yanesha artisans on a joint bio jewelry project with PaTS (Partnerships and Technology for Sustainability) organization and funded by IICA-Finland (Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture).

In this video Marilu talks about how she never imagined to be sculpting wood into jewelry. More on the Yanesha artisans and community here. See the Yanesha collection here.

Using managed forest wood, which has been carefully selected, to create added value products like jewelry, furniture, bowls, among other items, helps generate about $2,000 per tree instead of selling a tree for a mere $100 for its wood alone. This is more beneficial to the artisans and community, as well as helps protect the rainforest from clear-cutting.

In this video Yanesha artisans go deep into the forest to collect wood from managed forests to make jewelry, and bring out bowls made for PaTS. The artisans also collect branches and unsused wood recycled from the production of bowls and furniture.

ORG by vio featured on The Unchanging music video

Donna De Lory’s new album The Unchanging is one of the most deeply personal artistic statements in her deep catalog of mantra music classics. But it resonates on a universal level as well, bathing the listener in chilled out electronic textures, world flavors, sonorous string arrangements, tender balladry and lyrics that touch on the heart’s eternal truths. And, as always, Donna’s sublime voice has the power to lift us all into realms of pure bliss.

Donna came by our booth in Los Angeles a couple of years ago and since then, she has become a loved client who owns a number of ORG by vio boho jewelry. We are pleased that she chose ORG by vio jewelry for The Unchanging music video, where she wears the Amazon Traditional Necklace and the Nuwa Belt. We invite you to have a listen. Enjoy the video!

AMARNO Internet Project: Provide Market Access to Women Artisans in Peru

Help generate jobs and establish a sustainable future for this women’s artisan cooperative and their community today at  http://groundworkopportunities.org/ideas/provide-market-access-to-peruvian-artisans or via my GO Champion campaign at http://groundworkopportunities.org/champions/violetav68Vio

Bringing Internet to women artisans’ organization AMARNO and our community will facilitate overcoming the main barrier in communications with the outside world and will allow access to markets that ensure income and sustainable development for our families in Urakuza. It will support our community’s economic and sustainable future by creating an alternative to the sale of rainforest trees. This Internet system will also serve the wider community by providing access to other community organizations, members and leaders, school teachers and students.
